Embark on the adventure of a lifetime with our 7 Day Serengeti Great Migration Safari, one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences on the planet. This carefully curated itinerary takes you deep into the heart of Tanzania's northern safari circuit, where you will witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration — a natural phenomenon involving over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles moving across the vast Serengeti plains in search of fresh grazing land.

Your journey begins in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania's famous northern parks, before heading west through the dramatic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you will stop at the iconic crater viewpoint for breathtaking panoramic views, and visit the historic Olduvai Gorge where some of the earliest evidence of human life was discovered.

The centerpiece of this safari is the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning 14,763 square kilometers of endless grasslands, kopjes, and riverine forests. Spend three full days exploring different regions of the park, tracking the migration herds, observing predator-prey dynamics, and witnessing scenes straight out of a wildlife documentary. From lions lounging on granite kopjes to cheetahs sprinting across the open plains, every moment in the Serengeti is unforgettable.

The adventure continues at the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater teeming with nearly 40,000 animals including the elusive black rhino, elephant herds, and the famous crater lions. Descend to the crater floor for a full day of game viewing in one of the densest wildlife concentrations in Africa.

Your safari concludes with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park, renowned for its tree-climbing lions, dense groundwater forests, and spectacular flocks of flamingos along the soda lake shores.

Throughout the journey, you will stay in handpicked luxury lodges offering stunning views, world-class dining, and authentic Tanzanian hospitality. Our experienced driver-guides share their deep knowledge of the land, its wildlife, and its people, ensuring every day is filled with discovery and wonder.

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

Your Tanzanian adventure begins the moment you touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). As you step out of the terminal, our driver-guide will be waiting at the arrivals hall holding a signboard with your name clearly displayed. After a warm welcome and brief introduction, you will be escorted to our comfortable 4x4 safari vehicle, specially modified for game viewing with pop-up roof, charging ports, and large windows. The drive to Arusha takes approximately 45 minutes, passing through the lush green foothills of Mount Meru and local villages where you catch your first glimpses of Tanzanian daily life — women carrying colorful kangas on their heads, children walking to school, and roadside vendors selling fresh tropical fruits. Upon arrival at Arusha Serena Hotel, a charming property nestled in tranquil gardens with views of Mount Meru, you will be checked into your comfortable room and given time to freshen up. The hotel blends colonial elegance with modern comfort, featuring handcrafted furniture, local artwork, and private balconies overlooking the manicured gardens. At 6:30 PM, your safari guide will meet you in the hotel lobby for a comprehensive welcome briefing lasting approximately 45 minutes. This detailed session covers what to expect each day, wildlife viewing tips, photography advice, packing recommendations, health and safety information, and cultural etiquette. You will receive your personalized safari pack including a detailed wildlife identification chart, binoculars for the trip, a reusable water bottle, and a printed day-by-day itinerary. Dinner is served at the hotel main restaurant featuring a stunning buffet of Tanzanian and international cuisine. Start with fresh tropical fruits — mangoes, passion fruit, and papaya — before moving to the main courses which include grilled tilapia from Lake Victoria, Nyama Choma (traditional Tanzanian grilled meat), and a selection of curries and salads. Day 2

Arusha to Serengeti via Ngorongoro

Rise before dawn for an early breakfast at the hotel, served from 6:00 AM with fresh coffee from the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, warm pastries, tropical fruit platters, and a full English breakfast. By 7:30 AM, depart Arusha heading west towards the Serengeti. The drive itself is an adventure as you ascend through the lush highlands of the Arusha region, passing through dense coffee plantations where farmers tend their crops under the shadow of Mount Meru. The road winds through banana groves and small Maasai settlements where you may spot herds of cattle grazing alongside wild zebras and wildebeest — a unique sight that demonstrates the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and pastoral communities in this region. Around 10:00 AM, arrive at the famous Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint. Step out of the vehicle and gaze down at the world largest intact volcanic caldera — a vast amphitheater 20 kilometers across and 600 meters deep, home to nearly 40,000 animals. The views from the rim are simply breathtaking and offer some of the best photography opportunities of the trip. Continue descending through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the landscape transitions from montane forest to open grasslands. Your guide will point out Maasai cattle herders guiding their distinctive long-horned cattle alongside herds of zebra and eland. Stop briefly at a Maasai boma (traditional homestead) for a quick cultural interaction. The road winds through open grasslands and acacia woodland as you enter the Serengeti ecosystem. By early afternoon, arrive at Serengeti Serena Lodge, perched dramatically on a ridge with sweeping views of the Serengeti plains. After lunch and a brief rest, set out on your first afternoon game drive in the central Seronera area — the heart of the Serengeti. This region is renowned for its incredible density of wildlife. Look out for lionesses resting on granite kopjes, leopards draped in sausage trees along the Seronera River, and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra grazing on the open plains. The late afternoon golden light creates perfect conditions for photography as animals become most active before nightfall. Return to the lodge as the sun sets over the endless plains, painting the sky in spectacular shades of orange, pink, and purple.

Day 3

Serengeti Full Day — Great Migration

Today is the day you have been waiting for — a full day dedicated entirely to witnessing the Great Migration, the largest wildlife spectacle on Earth. Depart the lodge at 5:45 AM with packed breakfast boxes and thermos flasks of hot coffee and tea. The early departure ensures you are among the first vehicles on the plains as dawn breaks over the Serengeti horizon. The first hour of game driving is magical — the soft morning light casts long shadows across the golden grasslands, and predators are most active after a night of hunting. Drive towards the western corridor where the Grumeti River creates a natural barrier for the migrating herds. This is where the most dramatic scenes unfold. Watch as thousands of wildebeest gather at the riverbanks, their nervous calls filling the air as they gauge the depth and current. Crocodiles lie in wait beneath the surface, their eyes barely visible above the muddy water. When the first brave wildebeest plunges in, the entire herd follows in a chaotic, thundering mass — an unforgettable spectacle of nature. Spend the morning observing this incredible drama from various vantage points along the river. Your guide will position the vehicle for optimal viewing and photography, explaining the behavior of both the predators and the migrating herds. Around midday, return to the lodge for a hot lunch and a brief siesta during the midday heat when animals seek shade under the acacia trees. The afternoon game drive heads towards the famous Seronera Valley and the western reaches of the park. Visit the Simba Kopjes — ancient granite rock formations rising from the plains like stone islands — where a resident pride of lions regularly rests on the warm rocks. Watch as cubs play between the boulders while their mothers survey the plains below. Continue to a scenic kopje for sundowner drinks as you watch the African sun paint the sky in fiery shades of orange and crimson. The sound of hyenas whooping in the distance signals the transition from day to night. Return to the lodge for a memorable dinner under the stars.

Day 4

Serengeti Morning Drive then to Ngorongoro

Another early start with a 6:00 AM departure for a final morning game drive in the Serengeti. Today your guide heads towards the eastern plains and the famous Maasai kopjes, focusing on areas not yet explored. The morning light reveals new wildlife as you drive through tall grasslands where cheetahs hunt — watch for the fastest land animal on Earth as it spots prey from a termite mound, crouches low, and explodes into a breathtaking sprint. Stop at a termite mound where a family of warthogs shelters in the shade, their tails standing straight up like antennas as they waddle away comically. Visit the Seronera River where pods of hippopotamus surface and submerge in the deep pools, their massive bodies creating waves as they emerge for air. Watch for the elusive leopard, the most secretive of the Big Five, as it slinks through the riverine forest along the river banks. Around 10:00 AM, begin the drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route passes through the western Serengeti and into the Ngorongoro highlands, offering ever-changing landscapes from open plains to forested hills. Stop at the famous Olduvai Gorge, often called the Cradle of Mankind. This archaeological site is where Dr. Louis Leakey discovered some of the earliest evidence of human ancestors dating back 1.8 million years. The small museum here tells the fascinating story of human evolution, with original fossil casts and artifacts. Your guide will explain the significance of this site and how it fundamentally changed our understanding of human origins. Continue the ascent through montane forest where you may spot Colobus monkeys leaping between the treetops. Arrive at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge by late afternoon, perched on the rim of the crater with jaw-dropping panoramic views of the vast caldera below. Enjoy dinner on the terrace as night falls over the crater and the sounds of the African bush — hyenas, jackals, and nightjars — fill the crisp highland air.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater Full Day

Today you descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. The descent begins at 6:30 AM as your 4x4 winds down the steep crater wall along a narrow, switchbacking road. The morning mist still hangs over the crater floor, creating an ethereal atmosphere as you descend 600 meters into this natural amphitheater spanning 20 kilometers across. Within minutes of reaching the flat crater floor, you encounter wildlife in extraordinary concentrations — this is one of the few places in Africa where you have an excellent chance of seeing all the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino) in a single day. Drive first to Lake Magadi, the alkaline soda lake at the center of the crater. Thousands of lesser flamingos wade in the shallow pink-tinged waters, their synchronized movements creating mesmerizing patterns against the blue sky. Giant greater flamingos stand elegantly along the shoreline, filtering food from the alkaline water. Hippos wallow in freshwater springs near the lake, their massive bodies submerged except for their eyes, ears, and nostrils. Watch for black rhinos grazing on the crater floor — the Ngorongoro Crater holds one of the last remaining populations of this critically endangered species. Your guide will maintain a respectful distance while you observe these magnificent creatures through binoculars. Elephant herds move gracefully across the short grass plains, their large tusks gleaming in the morning sun. Watch for the famous crater lions, some of the most photographed big cats in the world, as they rest in the shade of acacia trees or stalk prey across the open grasslands. Stop for a picnic lunch at a designated site on the crater floor, surrounded by wildlife. Buffalo herds graze nearby while zebras and wildebeest wander past at a comfortable distance. The afternoon brings new sightings as predators become active again. Watch for hyena clans emerging from their dens, jackals trotting across the grasslands, and secretary birds striding through the short grass hunting for snakes. Late afternoon sees you ascending the crater wall for one final look at this extraordinary natural wonder before returning to the lodge.

Day 6

Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara

After a leisurely breakfast with stunning panoramic views of the Ngorongoro Crater below, check out of the lodge and depart towards Lake Manyara National Park. The drive takes approximately two hours through the scenic Ngorongoro highlands. The road winds through lush montane forest and open grasslands where Maasai cattle herders guide their livestock alongside wildlife. Stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the Great Rift Valley — the geological scar that stretches from Lebanon to Mozambique. The views are spectacular, with Lake Manyara visible in the distance shimmering in the morning light. Arrive at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge by late morning. This beautiful property is set on the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment with stunning views over the lake and surrounding forests. After check-in and lunch, set out on your afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This compact park, just 330 square kilometers, packs an incredible diversity of habitats into a small area — from groundwater forests and acacia woodlands to open grasslands and the alkaline soda lake itself. Drive through the dense groundwater forest where enormous mahogany, fig, and sausage trees create a lush tropical canopy. This is the domain of the legendary tree-climbing lions — one of the few populations in Africa that regularly climb trees to escape the heat and biting insects. Look up into the branches as you drive through the forest; the lions are surprisingly difficult to spot despite their size. The park is also home to enormous troops of olive baboons and blue monkeys, often seen playing in the trees just meters from the lions. As you emerge from the forest, the landscape opens up to the shores of Lake Manyara. Vast flocks of flamingos — sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands — create a stunning pink ribbon along the soda lake. Pelicans, storks, and herons wade in the shallows while African fish eagles patrol the skies above. Return to the lodge for dinner with panoramic Rift Valley views.

Day 7

Lake Manyara and Departure

Your final morning begins with a 6:30 AM game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, focusing on areas not covered the previous afternoon. The early morning light filtering through the groundwater forest creates an ethereal, almost magical atmosphere — shafts of golden light piercing through the dense canopy, illuminating the forest floor. This is the best time for photography as the soft light reveals the intricate details of the forest ecosystem. Drive along the lakeshore where large herds of elephant browse on the acacia trees, their young calves staying close to their mothers. Watch for the park distinctive hippos, some of the most approachable in East Africa, resting in the shallow pools near the hot springs where steam rises from the earth. Visit the hot springs where geothermally heated water bubbles up from the Rift Valley floor, creating small pools where hippos and crocodiles bask in the warm water. The contrast between the steaming water and the cool morning air creates a surreal atmosphere. After the game drive, return to the lodge for a late breakfast and time to pack at a relaxed pace. Check out and begin the scenic drive back to Arusha. The route follows the Rift Valley escarpment, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Pass through the vibrant town of Mto wa Mbu, home to over 120 different ethnic groups — one of the most culturally diverse settlements in Tanzania. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Arusha or visit the bustling Central Market for last-minute souvenirs. Browse stalls selling colorful kangas, hand-carved wooden sculptures, Tanzanian coffee, and Maasai beadwork. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight, carrying with you unforgettable memories of seven extraordinary days exploring Tanzania most iconic landscapes and witnessing the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth.
