Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Moshi/Arusha to Tarangire

Early morning pick up from your hotel. Drive to Tarangire National Park (approx. 2-3 hours). Enter the park and begin your game drive. Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees — some over 1000 years old. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot along the Tarangire River. Continue game viewing in the afternoon, looking for lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and over 550 bird species. The park is home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa with up to 3,000 elephants. Drive to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

The crater floor covers 260 sq km and is home to nearly 40,000 animals. Enjoy a full day game drive tracking the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and the rare black rhino — the most dense population in Africa. See flamingos at the soda lake, hippos in the pools and hyenas on the plains. Picnic lunch at the crater floor with stunning views. Late afternoon ascend the crater rim and drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
